Executive Committee

“Knowledge is Power,” the quote made famous by Sir Francis Bacon, has been taken to heart by your CLA Workers’ Compensation Section’s Executive Committee. Our committee has been hard at work gathering speakers and setting topics for a series of educational programs that you won’t want to miss. I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of our great upcoming education programs, such as the Legal Specialization Examination Boot Camp slated for this summer. Our committee also offers regularly scheduled webinars that provide in depth coverage of a specific topic related to the workers’ compensation field of practice.

In this issue of the Enews, we have a fantastic interview with Senior Trial Judge Geoff Sims of the Fresno District Office.   Judge Therese DaSilva of the Oakland District Office conducts the intriguing interview with Judge Sims.  We also get a glimpse of the application of artificial intelligence in the field of workers’ compensation from Julius Young of Boxer Gerson.   In addition, Kenneth Kingdon provides an excellent review of the recent case of Kave v. State which addresses the question of whether the Guides apply when the body part is not listed in the Guides.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of the Enews and I look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming education conferences.
