MCLE Requirements
The requirements for fulfilling your Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) requirements are mandated by The State Bar of California. With a few exceptions, all attorneys who are actively practicing law in California must complete ongoing legal training. Twenty-five hours of MCLE are required every three years. These hours must include credits on ethics as well as competence issues, such as substance abuse and mental health. Total hours must now include no less than seven hours as follows:
- At least four hours of legal ethics.
- At least two hours of elimination of bias credit. Of the two hours, at least one hour must focus on implicit bias and the promotion of bias reducing strategies.
- At least one hour of education addressing competence issues.
