Initiatives
The California Lawyers Association has created three bar-wide initiatives consistent with our mission of promoting excellence, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and fairness in the administration of justice and the rule of law:
Access to Justice (A2J)
Making the justice system more accessible to people in need across California
Civics Engagement and Outreach (CEO)
Educating Californians about the Judicial branch, the role of lawyers, and the rule of law
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Fostering an equitable legal profession that mirrors the population

Get Involved with CLA Committees
Several CLA-wide Committees have been formed to focus on the initiative directives including:
- Access to Justice Committee (A2J) to support access to justice projects/efforts for CLA volunteers with a particular focus on unbundled legal services;
- Civic Engagement & Education Committee (CEO);
- Our externally focused Diversity Outreach Advisory Council (DOC) that is working on pipeline issues; and
- Our internally focused Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEI).
You can find some information about these committees by clicking on the initiative links at the top of this page. If you would like to apply to join one or more of these committees, click here to find the committee application form and a full list of CLA Committees. Applications are typically due by August 1st.
California Lawyers Foundation
CLA has established a separate 501c(3), the California Lawyers Foundation. The Foundation is proud to support and encourage programs, services and activities that further its mission to promote excellence, diversity, and inclusion in the legal profession, fairness in the administration of justice and the rule of law, access to justice, and greater civic engagement and understanding.
