Enjoying CLA? It Is Not Too Late to Invite Your Friends

Chair of the Board of Representatives Ryan M.F. Baron

As we kick off 2022, we hope you are taking advantage of the many benefits of belonging to the California Lawyers Association.

Whether you are earning those last few MCLE credits before the February 1 compliance deadline, taking advantage of Calbar Connect insurance and product discounts, or accessing our free Fastcase legal research, CLA truly has something for everyone.

Membership renewal season is winding down, but it is not too late to spread the word among your friends and colleagues. Even though CLA is a separate volunteer organization from the State Bar of California, California attorneys can join or renew when they pay their annual State Bar license fees, which are due February 1. Nonprofit and public interest attorneys qualify for a reduced-cost CLA membership. Our new membership structure also allows members to choose what level of engagement works best. Whether you are interested in advocacy—using our collective voice to weigh in on issues lawyers care about—or want to go deep into our practice-specific Section programs, we have you covered. See all the pricing options.

If you know someone who is considering joining CLA, feel free to send them the winter issue of Legal Perspectives to give them a good sense of what we are all about. Available without a membership, CLA’s quarterly digital publication showcases our best Section content.

The publication also features stories about the amazing work of the California Lawyers Foundation and individual members who are making a difference in their communities. If you know someone who deserves to be profiled, please nominate them by emailing legal.perspectives@calawyers.org. We are constantly impressed by the wonderful work being done by so many of you.

For us, CLA has been an incredible journey. We feel fortunate we have had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and experiences, get introduced to new people, and use the power of CLA’s network to grow and learn. From Sections, Committees, advocacy, and relationships with judicial and bar associations, being a member has been a highlight both personally and professionally. It has formed the basis of many beautiful friendships and business growth.

We hope to see you soon, perhaps at an upcoming event such as the January 13 Trivia Night with the California Judges Association.

And we wish you all a safe and happy New Year!
