SSF Friends,

2019 has been a year of reinvention for the Solo and Small Firm Section. From a new Mission Statement to new Signature Programming to revamped Awards and more, July now finds us rolling out a new name for our electronic newsletter. Welcome the “The Solo Advisor.”

Our Section is fortunate to have several Advisors, made up of past Executive Committee members, tested and true solo and small firm members who provide historical continuity, advice, guidance, and expertise to the Executive Committee as we navigate each year.  We hope to channel the wisdom our Advisors bring to the Executive Committee and share it with you, our membership. Our electronic newsletter is geared towards ensuring you have up-to-date and bite sized pieces of information you need to help make you a better practitioner and business owner and manager. With The Solo Advisor, you always have a team helping you along your path and a community to support you.

We’re also announcing some new resources for our membership, including free Fastcase legal research and a resources page. SSF is your community, and we’re here to help you succeed.

#SSF Shines

We are fresh off the heels of CLA’s Solo and Small Firm Summit in Huntington Beach. For those who were there, it was great to see you and to convene in such an incredible location. For those who missed it…don’t worry, there’s always next year!

Along with the incredible programming, almost 200 people attended our inaugural Excellence Awards at the Solo and Small Firm Summit. The sun was out, the surf was up, and it was a lovely afternoon celebrating true excellence in our profession. Congratulations once again to Norma J. Williams (Excellence in Practice), Sheila-Marie Finkelstein (Excellence in Service) and Summer C. Selleck (Excellence in Service). You can learn more about the honorees in the next issue of our print publication, the Practitioner.

#SSF Supports

We are excited that CLA is working on getting listservs in place, a crucial benefit for our SSF members. Until the time that the listservs are up, please know that there is a LinkedIn Group under “Solo and Small Firm Section of the California Lawyers Association.” We strongly encourage you to take advantage of it and the way it connects our membership.
