Solo & Small Firm

Message from the Chair

Please share:

We have made it.  It is fall and my favorite time of year.  While still hot in the day in San Diego, the nights begin to really cool down and you know relief from this seemingly endless summer is just around the corner.

What also is just around the corner is this year’s Solo and Small Firm Summit being held virtually on October 7 and 8th.  While virtual this year’s summit has several educational tracks to choose from in addition to keynote speakers Stuart Teicher and Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, the Honorable Rubert Byrdsong, it also has networking, trivia and Q&A sessions.  To register for the year’s Summit, click the link here.

To round off this year’s Summit, the Solo Small Firm holds its annual section awards.  This year, the SSF Section is proud to announce our two chosen award recipients: Michelle A. Philo of Philo Law Firm, P.C., the recipient of the Excellence in Service Award and Nina Marino of Kaplan Marino as the  recipient of the Excellence in Practice Award.  We invite you to please join us at the Solo Small Firm Awards to honor these two amazing attorneys for their outstanding work and dedication to their communities.

But the SSF Summit and Awards are not the only exciting news this month. It is with great pride that the Solo Small Firm Section announces the publication of its book Opening and Managing a Law Office: Go Solo, Win Clients, and Be Your Own Boss.  The Solo Small Firm Section set out to create a complete comprehensive guide for opening and managing  a solo or small firm and here it is.  Over 47 preeminent California attorneys stepped up to author more than 770  pages of invaluable advice on how to get started and set yourself from the competition, funding and financing methods, hiring and employer practices, mobile lawyer, technology, ethical considerations, personal wellness, best practices and so much more.

The Solo Small Firm section is incredibly proud to have produced this invaluable tool for solo and small firm practitioners.  It has been a labor of love and has only been out a couple of weeks and is already one of Amazon’s top educational book sellers.  We are incredibly proud of this offering, which you can find here.

But publications like this don’t just magically materialize and the SSF Section would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of past chair Renee Stackhouse, who headed up this project during her term and saw it through to fruition, not a deadline missed.  We truly appreciate you and all of your efforts to make this amazing contribution to our legal community a reality.

Finally, if you are unable to join us for the Solo Small Firm Summit, remember we have a new online community found on the landing page of the California Lawyers Association website.  Please come introduce yourself, your firm and let us know what we can do for you. As always, stay well.  Remember #WeAreSSF
