Keeping Women in Civil Litigation Practice: Making it More Civilized
By Laura W. Brill
While nearly half of law school graduates are women, their representation in the profession drops precipitously with each level of advancement. Just 35% of attorneys given the title of "partner" are women, and only 18% of equity partners are women. This last number has barely improved in the last decade.
In 20 years of litigation practice I have seen first-hand the attrition of women lawyers generally and, more importantly, the loss of exceptionally talented, hard-working and well-trained women litigators from law firms, from litigation and often from the practice of law altogether.
