Commissioner Bayles-Fightmaster’s Award Speech October 9, 2015
First, I want to thank the State Bar, FLEXCOM, and especially Sherry Peterson for nominating me for this Lifetime Achievement award. I have known about it for several months and remain overwhelmed.
Second, I am so honored to be sharing the podium tonight with my friend and colleague, Judge Hallahan. She is the perfect choice for the Judicial Officer of the Year award. For someone who comes from a civil background she has taken to family law like a duck to water, as they say. She totally gets it, has worked on many committees, both in San Diego and at the State level, to improve many aspects of family law. Congratulations Maureen!
Next, I want to introduce my amazing family. I would not be standing here today if it were not for my wonderful husband, Gerry. He has supported me in more ways than I can say over the thirty-seven years we have been together. Also both of my children are here with their significant others. My son Theo, his wife, Erin and their son Lyle are here. My daughter, Rachel and her partner, Tosh are also here. I love you all and am proud to have you here tonight, and more importantly, in my life. You have grown up to be compassionate and caring adults who do good works in our mixed-up world.
I also want to thank my friends and colleagues from the Bay Area who have made the trip down for this event. I really appreciate your support.
