Navigating IP Licensing in Extreme Conditions

The rule of law is crumbling in some jurisdictions and changing radically in others. This talk looks at how IP transactions are affected by Russia’s refusal to protect Western patents, as well as IP protection resistance in other nations. In addition, how do we accommodate AI inventions, even if the AI is ruled to be the inventor in relevant jurisdictions?

Guest Speaker: Ted Claypoole practices licensing, software, and data management law and leads the Womble Bond Dickinson IP Transaction Team. Ted is past chair of the ABA’s Cyberspace Law Committee in the Business Law Section. He is co-author with Theresa Payton of the books Privacy in the Age of Big Data and Protecting Your Internet Identity: Are You Naked Online? Ted assembled and edited The Law of Artificial Intelligence and Smart Machines for the ABA. He also wrote the recent book Technology, Data and Law, and is the editor and writer for the blog Hey Data Data.
