In December of 2018, the Taxation Section began a new resolution program to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the Taxation Section or California tax community during their careers. These resolutions are awarded at the time of one’s retirement or a lifetime achievement resolution is awarded for those who assume a significantly reduced role in the profession instead of retiring.
The inaugural recipients of these resolutions were Bruce Langston and Patrick Bittner who both retired in December of 2018. Bruce Langston retired from the Franchise Tax Board after 36 years of state service during which time he demonstrated a deep commitment to the partnership between the government and tax community, and was a strong advocate for fair and transparent tax administration. Patrick Bittner retired from the Franchise Tax Board after 32 years of state service during which time he strengthened the trust between the government and the public through his reputation for fairness and candor.
