Town Hall Meeting with State Bar on Proposed Fee Increase and Options for Structuring the Fee
At its meeting on March 21, 2024, the State Bar Board of Trustees approved a request for an increase in the 2025 mandatory licensing fee of $125 per active attorney. The State Bar’s justification for the licensing fee increase is articulated in the State Bar report submitted to the Legislature. The State Bar’s proposal also calls on the Legislature to include in future years an automatic adjustment based on the California Consumer Price Index and outlines options for the Legislature’s consideration to restructure the way in which the licensing fee is assessed, with a recommendation to adopt a new structure based on attorney practice sector.
