The State Bar has submitted its Justification for a Licensing Fee Increase to the Chief Justice of California and to the Assembly and Senate Judiciary Committees. The report outlines the State Bar’s justification for a 2025 fee increase of $125 per active attorney. The report also discusses options for structuring the fee and contains recommendations for shifting to a tiered system based on different practice sectors. Finally, the report proposes that the Legislature authorize an automatic annual CPI adjustment to the licensing fee.

CLA is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on April 22, 2024, from 12:00 – 1:30, with Leah Wilson, Executive Director of the State Bar, to discuss the proposed fee increase and the options for structuring the fee.  Saul Bercovitch, CLA’s Associate Executive Director, Governmental Affairs, will moderate the Town Hall Meeting.
