Civics Engagement and Outreach Initiative

One of CLA’s key priorities is to help increase the civic awareness, knowledge and engagement of Californians. CLA’s Civics Engagement and Outreach Committee (CEO) works to raise awareness about the importance of civic knowledge and participation. The Committee also generates civic education resources and materials and connects legal professionals with volunteer opportunities to present civic education in the K-12 classroom. The 2023-2024 committee is comprised of: Jerrilyn Malana, Chair; Thomas Lenz, Vice Chair; Rachelle Cohen, Jessica Fierro, Angela Hebberd, Caroline Huang, Lily Huang, Christina Ramirez, Rajesh Rathour, Erik Silber, Jonathan Slowik, and Stephanie Story.

Attorneys – Training and How to Volunteer

Creating greater diversity in the legal profession begins in Kindergarten and continues through law school. Through every grade level, California Lawyers Association is committed to getting lawyers to the classroom to connect directly with students to provide legal and civics education, and serve as role models. From comic books to our diverse lawyer video series, to sending lawyers to the classroom, to mentoring students in college, we are committed to demystifying what a lawyer does and what a lawyer looks like. Day by day, year by year, we are planting seeds that the profession is within reach.
