California Lawyers Association
New Committee to Offer Ethics Guidance
The California Lawyers Association has created a new advisory group to help ensure CLA members stay up-to-date with their ethical obligations.
The new Ethics Committee will create educational content, comment on proposed rule changes, write advisory opinions on emerging ethical issues, and issue ethics alerts and reminders to CLA members.
The CLA Board appointed Co-Chairs David Majchrzak and Neil Wertlieb, along with Vice-Chair of Publications Alison Buchanan, Vice-Chair of Education Rachelle Cohen and Vice-Chair of Communications Karen Goodman.
The new Ethics Committee will work in collaboration with other bar associations and the State Bar Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct.
Beginning next year, the Ethics Committee will be seeking new members. Membership applications will be accepted based on a number of criteria, including ethics experience and a focus on diversity, as outlined in the CLA’s appointments policy. The Ethics Committee is committed to including at least one California Young Lawyers Association member as a member of the Ethics Committee.
If any CLA member is interested in joining the Ethics Committee, or in submitting a topic for an ethics advisory opinion, please contact Ellen Miller at the CLA: 916-873-6809 or ellen.miller@calawyers.org.
