Member Spotlight

This month, we are delighted to highlight the contributions of members of the Business Law Section (“BLS”) Shay Aaron Gilmore and Michael Davis. 

Shay is a member of the Agribusiness Standing Committee as well as the BLS Diversity Subcommittee.  Shay is the  Principal of The Law Office of Shay Aaron Gilmore in San Francisco where he provides general counsel, corporate, regulatory, commercial and other legal services for transactional matters exclusively to operators and investors in the legal cannabis industry throughout California.

Shay has served on the Board of Directors of the International Cannabis Bar Association since 2019 and is a founding member and the Immediate Past Chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco Cannabis Law Section. Shay is an active member of the California Cannabis Industry Association’s Diversity, Inclusion & Social Equity Committee, as well as the National Cannabis Industry Association’s Risk Management & Insurance Committee. Shay has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyer in Cannabis Law (2021) and in Business & Corporate Law (2020) by Super Lawyers Magazine.

The BLS is proud to appoint Michael Davis to the Bar Advisory Board of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. 

The Bar Advisory Board, which consists of attorneys judges, and the United States Trustee, was formed in 2009 to increase interaction and cooperation between the bankruptcy bar and the bench.

Michael is a current member of the BLS Executive Committee and a liasion to the New Lawyers Association.

His practice focuses on business, commercial, and insolvency law. His transactional work includes secured lending, distressed debt restructuring, lease financing, and corporate formation and governance. He has been named a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” every year since 2016 and has made the Super Lawyers “Up-and-Coming 100” list every year since 2018. He has also been named to “Best Lawyers in America” every year since 2018. Mike received Public Counsel’s prestigious Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, William J. Lasarow Award; is an Executive Committee Member of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association; is a former Co-Vice Chair of the California Lawyers Association’s Insolvency Law Committee; a former Executive Committee Member of the Remedies Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association; and a Member of both the Hispanic National Bar and Cuban American Bar Associations. Michael values giving back to the community, has worked on a number of pro bono matters, and enjoys volunteering for charitable organizations including Public Counsel, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles; Ronald McDonald House; Habitat for Humanity; Bet Tzedek; and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He is a graduate of USC School of Law (J.D.), and the University of Florida (B.S., Business Administration & Finance).
