SSF Friends,
It’s May and that means its already time for The New Normal: Mastering Modern Day Business Law Communication, an in-person program we’re putting on with the Business Law Section. It’s going to be an incredible opportunity to work or travel in the morning, learn about the impact of emojis, how to make your website ADA compliant, and get an hour of competence credit. Bring the family and stay for the weekend enjoying all Santa Barbara has to offer. Can’t make it in person? We’ll live stream it to wherever you are, so make sure to sign up.

Would you like us to come to your local bar and teach an MCLE in your area? The SSF Section has a grant to travel to “rural” locations and a library of MCLE programs that you can choose from. We’d love the opportunity to meet you in person. You can email solo@calawyers.org and we’ll work to get it set up on a date and time that works for you.

Have you heard rumblings about the potential increase in State Bar dues? Make sure you know the facts. CLA has a terrific and up-to-date fact sheet with all the information you need available here.

The Solo & Small Firm Summit will be held June 13-15 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach and is titled “The 21st Century Law Firm.” This event is actually not run by the SSF Section, however we have a strong showing in this year’s leadership. Thank you to Summit Chair Cindy Elkins and Vice Chair Jeremy Evans for their leadership on putting together this terrific event. Congratulations to SSF ExComm members Bennet Root, Robert Klein, Steven Mayer, Somita Basu, Nancy Goldstein, and Ritzel Ngo who will be presenting.
SSF Section has also sponsored the mobile “head shot” truck and photo studio that will be onsite during the Summit. We hope you enjoy and take advantage of it!
We can’t wait to see you at the Summit at our inaugural Excellence Award Reception where we’ll be honoring three inspiring women lawyers for the Excellence in Practice and Excellence in Service. It is free to attend the reception. The more, the merrier!

Are you the local person to whom everyone reaches out for your expertise on how to go solo or small firm? Do you have innovative ideas to help people go solo? Let us showcase your knowledge. We’re looking for authors who know their stuff! If you’re interested, please email me and send a writing sample (an article or blog) that we can take a look at. SSF Section is here to help you shine. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your Chair,
