Real Property Law Section Fall Soirée

Put the two together, and what do you achieve? A bold networking mixer designed to connect San Diego’s real estate and legal professionals.

CLA’s Real Property Law Section (RPLS) held it’s Funky Fall Soirée on the beautiful golf course patio at The Loma Club at Liberty Station on October 17th. Promising participants a lively atmosphere and great way to make connections, the electrifying evening did not disappoint. More than 100 people attended the event, where longtime colleagues and newcomers alike discussed a broad array of subjects including real estate trends, transactions, and the impact new technologies have on all sectors of the industry.

“This event was born in 2016 as a way to bring together real property professionals including attorneys, agents, brokers, lenders, appraisers, and investors for a night of networking across industries,” says the event’s founder, Tara Burd, who is a past Co-Chair of the RPLS and immediate past Chair of CLA. “This was our seventh year hosting, and it is such a joy to reconnect and hear about all the business relationships that have been forged through this event.”

The RPLS also partners with the San Diego County Bar Association’s (SDCBA) Real Property Section.  With the goal of 50% attendance by attorneys and 50% other real property professionals, working closely with the SDCBA is critical to the event’s success.

The evening was also presented by the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals (VAREP), San Diego Chapter, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing sustainable homeownership, financial-literacy education, and economic opportunity for the active-military and veteran communities. “VAREP is an outstanding organization to work with, both because of its dynamic leaders and also its veteran-focused purpose, which is near and dear to the hearts of so many San Diegans,” says Burd.

A local jazz band, Frankly Swingin’, set the tone along with mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres and drinks. The Fall Soirée was sponsored by several generous contributors: Citibank, Hoffman and Forde Attorneys at Law, KB Home, Klinedinst, and Sage Settlement Consulting. Numerous of the sponsors in attendance remarked on quality of the connections and value that this event brings.

The RPLS is the third largest of CLA’s 18 Sections. Established in 1979, it coordinates educational programs and literature for California’s diverse real estate attorneys and serves as a forum for communicating information to its members on current developments and trends in real property law. Membership also gives lawyers the opportunity to play a significant role in the development of policies and legislation affecting California real estate. The RPLS has many opportunities for attorneys and real-estate practitioners in addition to networking and sponsorship, including speaking engagements, print and electronic publications, and state-wide advocacy.  Attorneys and any other real property professionals are encouraged to join CLA and the RPLS.  “Members representing all facets of real property practice and transactions are critical to the RPLS’s success,” explains Burd.

Their next large-scale event is the upcoming Real Property Law Retreat and Women in Commercial Leasing Conference. It will held at The Continental Hotel in Monterey from March 7-9, 2025. For more information, or to apply to CLA, visit: https://calawyers.org/section/real-property-law
