As my 2015-2016 term comes to end, I am honored to have been the Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Executive Committee to the California State Bar. It has been an exciting year. Last year, heading into the beginning of my term, we were facing a budget crisis that looked dire for our Section. However, with the tireless help of the officers, committee members, advisors, and State Bar staff, we managed to cut costs without sacrificing any of the programs and services we provide. We further enhanced our revenue streams to bring our potential deficit into one of the strongest years financially the Section has seen in quite some time. I am proud of the work we have completed this year and I offer my sincerest "Thank you," to everyone who has volunteered countless hours over the past year.
It is now time to transition into the new leadership team of Megan Zavieh, Chair; Ritzel Ngo, Vice-Chair; and, Renee Galente; Treasurer. I am positive the three of them will continue their strong commitments to the Section and will bring some exciting programs for the year. Further, I am also pleased to announce our new Editor of Big News, Jeremy Evans. Jeremy is filling some very big shoes from our previous Editor, Henry David. I look forward to the next issue of Big News but am slightly saddened that this is my last Letter from the Chair. Perhaps, I can talk the new Editor into a new column called "Letters from the Immediate Past Chair."
