Webinar: Hot Topics in Wage and Hour Law

1.5 Hours MCLE

The panel will focus on “Hot Topics in Wage and Hour Law” in 2020 and provide perspectives from the Plaintiff and Defense side. This session will feature wage and hour issues raised by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as COVID-19 compensation exposure, exposure arising from “work from home” and “work from work” environments, and AB 1867.  We will also discuss the gig economy after the passage of Proposition 22, and recent developments in PAGA litigation.

Speakers

John Barber

John Barber is a partner in the LA and Orange County offices of Lewis Brisbois, Chair of the Labor & Employment Practice, and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. His practice is dedicated exclusively to representing and counseling employers in employment-related matters, including litigation, appeals, risk management, policy preparation, and training.

He represents employers in State and Federal Courts, both in California and across the United States, and has extensive experience appearing before all state and federal employment-related agencies, including the California DFEH, DLSE, and EDD, and United States EEOC, and Department of Labor.

Laura L. Ho

Laura L. Ho joined Goldstein, Borgen, Dardarian & Ho in 1998 and has been a partner since 2005. Her current practice focuses on California and federal wage and hour class and collective actions. Ms. Ho has also represented non-profit organizations as amici curiae in a number of cases affecting California employees in the California Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  She also regularly gives presentations on the subjects of California and federal wage and hour class and collective actions. Ms. Ho speaks Mandarin Chinese.

Ms. Ho received California Lawyer magazine’s California Lawyer of the Year Award (CLAY) in 2009 for her achievements in employment law, was named Best Lawyer’s 2014 Lawyer of the Year for Oakland in Litigation—Labor and Employment, and is regularly recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyer.

Gay Grunfeld

Gay Grunfeld is the managing partner of Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP in San Francisco, where she practices complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on business, civil rights, and employment litigation. She has over 25 years of experience practicing before trial and appellate courts at both the state and federal levels, including serving as lead counsel in PAGA and employment class actions. Ms. Grunfeld has been repeatedly named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal and has received recognition from Best Lawyers in America for her representation of individuals in employment matters. Ms. Grunfeld received a J.D. in 1984 from Columbia Law School and a B.A. in Philosophy in 1981 from Wellesley College. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable Jack Weinstein, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
