CLA is welcoming a slate of new staff members in 2019 to help fulfill its mission of promoting excellence, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and fairness in the administration of justice and the rule of law. Here we feature Administrative Assistant Camren Butler, who joined in January.

What key experience do you bring to CLA?

It was kind of all over the board. I started working at In-N-Out Burger for six years, so I got a lot of customer service experience. I moved to Chicago and worked for Residence Inn by Marriott, where I got introduced to working with a membership program. When I moved back to California I worked with developmentally disabled adults at a program in Auburn.

Why did you want to come to work for CLA?

My customer service experience matched what the position held out for me. I was really excited that it was a brand new organization. I really like growing with businesses. Also, there’s so much opportunity with CLA. It’s really cool establishing the new culture, working with a new staff and getting to know the members.

Which sections do you work for?

Litigation, Law Practice Management and Technology, and Workers’ Compensation.

So you’re new to working with lawyers and the legal industry. How are you liking it so far?

I love everything about my job. I wake up every morning and truly look forward to going into work. I’ve already learned many new skills and have met so many wonderful people! We have a spectacular team and I look forward to CLA’s future.

What do you like the most?

I enjoy helping my section coordinator produce beneficial programs for our members. I also enjoy meeting and interacting with our members whenever I have the chance. I like to do whatever I can to make their membership just a little bit better.

What projects are you excited about currently?

We have two big programs coming up, the Workers’ Comp Legal Specialization Boot Camp in Anaheim during July and the Litigation and Appellate Summit in LA during Sept. We’re looking forward to hosting some amazing speakers and hope to see as many members as we can! I look forward to working with my Section Coordinator, program directors and speakers to ensure both these programs will be both fun and beneficial for all our attendees.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I really enjoy spending time with friends and family. I just moved to Sacramento [from Rocklin, California] so I really enjoy getting to know the city. I’m an avid gamer and binge watcher.

Like shows such as Game of Thrones?

Ha! Yes. I’m not happy with the ending [which had aired the night before this interview]. But it was a good journey to get there.

What message would you like to share with CLA members who are reading this?

I would say it’s a really exciting time for CLA as an organization. We have so much potential and we have a great staff that’s willing to listen to any of our members’ feedback. We are creating that “yes” culture. The staff is so creative and focused on building up the organization.

Finish this sentence: CLA members should reach out to you for…?

Any questions regarding programs, or meetings or contact with their Sections. Or really anything. Whatever questions I can’t personally answer I will do my best to get the answer or direct them to someone who can properly answer their questions.
