California Lawyers Association
Giving Thanks
December 2023
By Jeremy M. Evans
President, California Lawyers FoundationÂ
As we approach the year-end giving season, now is the time to make your pledge to a cause that is near and dear to all of us. Pledge to the mission of the California Lawyers Foundation (CLF). Pledge to one of our three tenets.
CLF strives to provide access to justice in a world and time that needs it more than ever, civics engagement and education when our youth and all generations need to be reminded of the beauty and promise of America and its Constitution, and welcome people of diverse backgrounds into the legal profession.
Formed in 2019, the California Lawyers Foundation is the charitable arm and partner of California Lawyers Association, Californiaâs voluntary statewide bar association. While new to the scene, the CLF is a statewide foundation actively developing and supporting projects that improve access to justice for people in need and make the legal system more fair and efficient for everyone, increase diversity in the profession, and help educate Californians about the third branch of government, the role of lawyers, and the rule of law. CLF is a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code (âIRCâ) Section 501(c)(3). For more information about CLF, please visit calawyersfoundation.org.
The CLFâs impressive Board of Directors and history have proven to be a force in the nonprofit world through:
- Our Cal Law Pathways program for students looking to become attorneys
- Our very own comic book entitled âWhat Do Lawyers and Judges Do?â
- A brochure helping our youth become responsible adults, âWhen You Turn 18: A Legal Survival Guideâ
- FreeLegalAnswers, a limited-scope pro bono project for underserved Californians
These are just a few of the many programs involving the best and brightest attorneys, judges, and educators, all highlighted in the CLFâs official publication, âBecause We Mustâ. The CLF also takes the time to recognize the best, brightest, and most deserving of all creeds in awards and at annual events.
How can you give thanks? Become a member of the Founding Fifty, designate CLF as a recipient of a Cy Pres award (California Code of Civil Procedure Section 384), launch a Facebook campaign, or make a monthly donation or a designated gift.
Who can give thanks? Everyone. CLF welcomes contributions from individuals, law firms, and corporations. Please consider designating the California Lawyers Foundation in your annual corporate donation campaigns, paycheck deductions, employer matching options, and United Way workplace campaigns.
The California Lawyers Foundation wants to continue its mission of serving the community. The CLF wants to enhance and improve the world around us through education, leadership, and opportunity. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
