Unconscious bias plays a role in how we organize and interpret the world, but if left unchecked, such biases can—and do— have significant consequences in the practice of law. 

The April 14 program will explore the different forms of unconscious bias, the impact bias can have on the legal profession, the Implicit Association Test and what it can teach us about unconscious bias, and the risks of confirmation bias. 

The program speaker is Vida Thomas, a Berkeley attorney who has practiced employment law for more than 20 years and conducted more than 200 workplace investigations. The moderator is Thomas A. Hassing, chair of the Business Law Section and Privacy Law Committee.
