Gene Majeski, an early inductee into the Litigation Section’s Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame, and founding partner of the Ropers Majeski firm, passed away July 13, 2014. His long-time friend and former partner, Judge J. Barton Phelps (ret.) agreed to share some memories of this iconic California attorney with the members of the section.
REMEMBERING EUGENE MAJESKI
By the Honorable J. Barton Phelps
I first met Eugene Majeski in 1946 â 68 years ago â at a reception given by the Barristers Club of San Francisco. As President I shook hands with each new member, and I’ll never forget the way Gene shook hands. He radiated geniality and joy. He didn’t just shake your hand; he took it between his two hands and, grasping it, he gave you that infectious, joyous smile that all of us who knew him always remembered.
