IN-HOUSE COUNSEL INTEREST GROUP
Mission â The IP Section In-House Counsel Interest Group exists to address the common professional interests of in-house attorneys employed by public and private-sector entities (including academia and government), where legal issues relating to intellectual property arise. A further goal of the Interest Group is to improve the working relationships and interaction between in-house and outside counsel, vendors and support staff through exchanged shared experiences, regular networking, education and training. Finally, it is a goal of this Interest Group to provide transitional support to outside counsel making the move from law firm practice into an in-house position. Membership to the In-House Counsel interest group is not limited to only in-house counsel. Outside counsel members of the Section are also welcome to provide support and education to the Group.
Upcoming Programs â The IP Section In-House Counsel Interest Group has provided and continues to provide monthly hour-long CLE programs, alone and in co-sponsorship with other IP Interest Groups. These offerings focus on the education, training, and career development of IP corporate counsel. Past programs have addressed; pro-bono volunteerism, lists of effective practical office management tools, and establishing Government Affairs /Lobbying support. Future presentations will highlight the path an outside counsel must take to move in-house, and the skills necessary to retain those new positions.
