US Patent and Trademark Office Will Soon Require Identity Verification
The USPTO has announced that starting in 2022, as part of its ongoing efforts to protect the integrity of the U.S. trademark register, all trademark filers will be required to verify their identity with a one-time verification process. Identity verification will be available beginning January 8 and must be completed by April 9. There will be several verification options, including a secure electronic process provided by ID.me. The USPTO explained the details in a December 14 webinar. Keep an eye on the USPTO main Trademarks page (here) for future posting of the recorded webinar, accompanying slide deck, and an FAQ page about the process.
