Reparations are a vehicle many groups who have been oppressed have used to provide some recompense. Reparations are a good place to start with dealing with the harm inflicted on marginalized groups, but they are more than just financial. The State of California is currently studying how Reparations for African Americans will look.

This program will analyze California’s process for citizen-made law and the propositions on the November ballot, including legal and political issues surrounding ballot titles and summaries; signature-gathering; ballot measure campaigns and how issues are sold to the public; supporters, opponents, and the reasons for the positions; major sources of funding; potential impact; and the interplay with the Legislature.

In recognition of the 100-year anniversary of the 19th Amendment, two leading California women judges will reflect on the significance of the 19th Amendment and women’s contributions to the legal profession, and to the public generally, since receiving the right to vote.
