The Cliffs Hotel & Spa 2757 Shell Beach Road, Pismo Beach, CaliforniaThe Family Law Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association (FLEXCOM) is pleased to announce it will be hosting the Fourth Annual San Luis Obispo County Minor’s Counsel Training Symposium, in Pismo Beach, California on February 8 and 9, 2020. The program will provide a total of 12 hours MCLE credit, including at least 6 hours of Legal Specialization in Family Law. The symposium will satisfy the annual 8-hour training requirement of Rule 5.242 of the California Rules of Court. Those attorneys needing to satisfy the 12-hour initial training requirement will be able to attend a morning session on February 9 to obtain the additional 4 hours.

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a piece of landmark legislation with detailed requirements for the collection, storage and usage of consumer data. For attorneys working in the insurance space, the CCPA and the Attorney General’s proposed implementing regulations add yet another set of rules to the already-crowded field of privacy regulation.This one-hour webinar will discuss some of the issues that the new rules raise for insurers, including the treatment of insurance producers, the application of the rules to insurer claims files and the interaction between the CCPA and existing state and federal privacy laws.

In the landmark case Iskanian v. CLS Transportation, 59 Cal.4th 348 (2014), the California Supreme Court approved the use of class waivers in pre-dispute agreements while at the same time forbid the use of waivers that precluded employees from pursuing PAGA claims. Following Iskanian, employees in California have shifted to pursuing claims through PAGA representative suits, as proposed class actions are frequently compelled to individual arbitration.Â

Stacie draws her information from her mediation experiences, her teaching curriculum at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Law School, and her independent research. She will discuss the most prominent cognitive biases that impact settlement negotiations. She also will offer negotiating tactics to marginalize the impact of the biases and avoid impasse. Finally, she will share influence techniques that can optimize settlement outcomes.
