Global Commercial Leasing: Beginner’s Guide to Commercial Real Estate Leasing in Ireland

Topics to be covered include: lease economics, lease registration, assignment & subletting, landlord remedies, tenant remedies for landlord defaults, lease exit strategies, typical security deposit requirements, formalities of lease execution, relevant tax issues and extension protocols.

Speaker: Brian O’Callaghan.
Brian O’Callaghan is a partner in William Fry’s Real Estate Department and specialises in retail and office leasing for landlords and tenants and investment acquisitions and disposals of real estate portfolios including apartment blocks, shopping centres, hotels and offices. William Fry is a full-service corporate law firm that celebrates 175 years in business next year.
Brian also advises on all aspects of contentious property with a particular focus on landlord and tenant dispute including dilapidations, service charge disputes and possession cases.
He has over 20 years’ experience providing a broad spectrum of advice to retail, office and leisure clients and has advised multiple national and international clients on their expansion in the Irish market.
Brian represents international retailers such as Krispy Kreme, Hugo Boss and Superdry and blue-chip corporate entities such as IBM, Digital Realty, Workday and Yahoo!
In addition to contributing a chapter to the Law Society of Ireland Landlord & Tenant Law Manual, he is a regular lecturer on the Irish Law Society Professional Practice and Continuing Professional Development courses and other industry events.
Jo Ann Woodsum is an experienced commercial real estate leasing lawyer who undertakes complex real estate lease transactions for landlords as well as retail, life science and high-tech tenants. Her clients include large institutional landlords, high tech companies and small retail tenants. Ms. Woodsum routinely prepares a wide range of lease documents including industrial, office and retail leases, form leases, amendments, lease modifications, assignments, subleases, estoppel certificates, landlord lien waivers and SNDAs. She also advocates for the advancement of women in the legal profession. She has four rescue dogs and brings her dogs to work with her every day.
