Labor and Employment Law Section and California Lawyers Foundation Announce Recipients of Bar Studies Scholarships Supporting Diversity in the Profession
Scholarship Program Helps Pave The Way For Underrepresented Future Lawyers
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (August 14, 2024) – The Labor and Employment Law Section of the California Lawyers Association (CLA) and the California Lawyers Foundation (CLF) are pleased to announce the recipients of its Bar Studies Scholarship Program. This initiative, aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion within the labor and employment law field, awards bar studies stipends for outstanding law students and graduates enrolled at a California or ABA accredited law school in California with a demonstrated commitment to labor and employment law.
The Bar Studies Scholarship Program provides financial support to outstanding candidates preparing for the July 2024 or February 2025 California Bar Exam. The awarded stipends can be used to cover various expenses related to bar exam preparation, including examination and preparation course fees.
This program is designed to support individuals from underrepresented groups—including persons of color, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and others—who are committed to a career in labor and employment law. By alleviating some of the financial burdens associated with bar exam preparation, the scholarship aims to enhance diversity within the legal profession and promote equitable access to opportunities.
“We are thrilled to support these talented and dedicated law students and graduates through our scholarship program,” said Kevin Hosn, Chair of the Labor and Employment Law Section of CLA. “Their commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in labor and employment law aligns with our mission to foster a more representative and equitable legal community.”
The recipients of the Bar Studies Scholarship Program have demonstrated exceptional promise and dedication to the field. Their hard work and perseverance embody the core values of diversity and excellence that this program seeks to promote.
“Our mission to improve access to justice is deeply intertwined with supporting diverse legal talent today,” said Jeremy Evans, President of CLF. “By providing these scholarships, we’re directly addressing financial barriers that impact students now, aligning with our commitment to enhancing justice and diversifying the legal profession to better serve California’s diverse communities.”
