West L.A. Holiday Reception
by Neil Kalin

The rain couldn’t keep away a small cadre of real estate lawyers practicing on Los Angeles’ west side. There was even a representative from the Los Angeles’ legal community equivalent of the Gulag, the “Valley.” And a non-lawyer REALTOR from the beach communities took advantage of the weather-diminished attendance to mingle with every one and make valuable contacts for the future. This writer may have gotten a speaking engagement out of the connection. And, in a testament to its a small world, he also ran into counsel for a litigant in a now-closed arbitration over which he presided and learned about some interesting facts that led the case to settle. This same attendee also acquired first-hand knowledge about a significant case that will likely cause a reevaluation of not only the case but the judicial system. The shrimp seemed to be a hit as well as the chicken tenders but there was plenty of crackers left when this writer left to face the wet road home. If it were you who attended, who knows what ti-bits you could have learned, what connections you could have rekindled or what benefits you could have received. Don’t miss the next one.
