West L.A. Holiday Reception

The rain couldn’t keep away a small cadre of real estate lawyers practicing on Los Angeles’ west side. There was even a representative from the Los Angeles’ legal community equivalent of the Gulag, the “Valley.” And a non-lawyer REALTOR from the beach communities took advantage of the weather-diminished attendance to mingle with every one and make valuable contacts for the future. This writer may have gotten a speaking engagement out of the connection. And, in a testament to its a small world, he also ran into counsel for a litigant in a now-closed arbitration over which he presided and learned about some interesting facts that led the case to settle. This same attendee also acquired first-hand knowledge about a significant case that will likely cause a reevaluation of not only the case but the judicial system. The shrimp seemed to be a hit as well as the chicken tenders but there was plenty of crackers left when this writer left to face the wet road home.
