Graffiti artists have successfully sued property owners for millions of dollars for the removal of graffiti in violation of a relatively new form of IP in the United States: "Artist Rights." This article examines the various types of protection afforded artwork on buildings; recent cases involving artist rights; and precautions all property owners should take before allowing artwork to be created or destroyed on their buildings.
