Bruce Reed Goodmiller Honored as 2018 Public Lawyer of the Year
The Public Law Section named Bruce Reed Goodmiller, City Attorney for the City of Richmond, as the 2018 Ronald M. George Public Lawyer of the Year.
Mr. Goodmiller was honored at a reception on September 14, 2018 at the Annual Meeting of the California Lawyers Association in San Diego. The Public Lawyer of the Year Award recognizes Mr. Goodmiller as an exceptional attorney who has demonstrated a commitment to public service throughout his career.
"Mr. Goodmiller has successfully blended his passion for the law and public service and embodies the ultimate public servant dedicated to improving the community that he serves," said Ryan Baron, former Chair of the Public Law Section.
Mr. Goodmiller has served at the City of Richmond since 2009, first as a Senior Assistant City Attorney before his appointment to serve as City Attorney in 2012. In his current role, Mr. Goodmiller has guided the City of Richmond through significant and cutting-edge legal issues, including the settlement of major land use litigation regarding Point Molate and litigation with Chevron over the 2012 Richmond refinery fire, as well as advice regarding a major refinery modernization project that resulted in a complex package of community benefits.
