MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR

Written by Jimena Vasquez
Editor-in-Chief

The Family Law Executive Committee of the California Lawyers Association has a steadfast commitment to fostering the next generation of Family Law advocates. One of its core objectives is to mentor those new to the practice of family. It has been amazing to be a part of this group and witness their dedication and passion for family law and enhancing the practice. In particular, this past year, the committee made a concerted effort to offer incentives and encourage students to become family law practitioners. Recognizing that many students going into family law won’t be joining law firms with bar stipends or signing bonuses, we offered a small scholarship to defray bar expenses. Students had to answer a prompt and then the top essay would win the scholarship and the top three would have their essays featured in this issue. The prompts ranged from tell us about how you will be an asset to family law to how helping someone in family law has impacted your interest in the area of family law. After reviewing many essays, the winners were chosen and their essays highlight the calling of the field, to help families in need during some of the hardest moments of their lives. These essays are filled with inspiration and are a celebration of potential and opportunity. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.

Also in this issue are wonderful articles from practitioners around the state. We have Robert Roth’s article on Family Code 4322 and its implication in high worth spousal support claims. We have an article from Jack J. Morrow on how to make sure settlements get turned into judgments. We also have an article from Michelene Insalaco on Statements of Decision and their practical application in family law. Finally, we have an article from Deborah Bull about evidence in Family Law. Together, these articles form a comprehensive mosaic of knowledge, enriching the family law legal community with insights and strategies essential for success.
