LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Each of the California Lawyers Association’s eight Sections focuses on a distinct practice area. Our Business Law Section offers further practice concentration through our 14 substantive standing committees, each of which focuses on a particular area of business law: corporate law, financial institutions, health law, franchise law, insolvency, insurance, nonprofits, partnerships and LLCs, AI and cyberlaw, the UCC and more. This offers to BLS members the opportunity to focus their time and energy where it is most relevant to their interests.
But that’s not all that the BLS offers to our members. The practice of business law in California involves topics and challenges beyond the boundaries of our specific practice area. One of those topics, ethics, is the subject of this special issue of the Business Law News. The issue features articles written by members of the CLA’s Ethics Committee and was edited by Neil J Wertlieb, an Inaugural Co-Chair and Founding Member of the Ethics Committee and our BLS Representative to the CLA Board of Representatives. The Ethics Committee is one of 14 CLA-wide Committees open to BLS members, addressing such matters of interest as Health and Wellness, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Civic Engagement and Education, and Website and Technology. The Committees offer members of the BLS an opportunity to collaborate with members of other CLA Sections on issues of importance to all California lawyers. I invite you to check out the CLA Committees and join the BLS as we work with our fellow Sections to provide information, support, and opportunities for advancement to all lawyers practicing in California.
