Welcome to Issue 4 of the Business Law News, my first as Editor in Chief. I’m grateful to our outgoing Editor in Chief Everett Green, who did an amazing job over the course of the last term, which ended in September.
Our first article, an annual tradition, is author Mark Moore’s tribute to this year’s Business Law Section’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner Yvonne Walker. Many of you will recognize Ms. Walker for her years of service and many contributions to the Section. In addition to Mark’s article, Ms. Walker was honored at the Business Law Section’s breakfast at the State Bar’s annual meeting on October 1, 2016.
Next is the first of two articles by author Robert Wood. The first of his articles answers the question "are insurance bad faith recoveries taxable?" The article provides a comprehensive review of the law in this area, including Internal Revenue Service Private Letter Rulings and recent case law.
