EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Charles E. McKee
Greetings from the Business Law Section. For this issue I would like to talk about the real heroes of the Sectionâthe fourteen standing committees. These fourteen committees, staffed with more than 250 volunteers, women and men just like you, do the real work of the Section. They put on programs and seminars, author articles and publications, and propose laws and comment on proposed lawsâall to improve the practice of business law for you and each of the other 8,400 members of the Business Law Section.
These fourteen standing committeesâthe fourteen workhorses of the Sectionâare Agribusiness, Commercial Transactions (formerly UCC), Consumer Financial Services, Corporations, Cyberspace, Financial Institutions, Franchise Law, Health Law, Insurance Law, Insolvency Law, Nonprofit Organizations, Opinions, Partnerships and Limited Liability Companies, and the editorial board of the Business Law News. The names of these committees illustrate the broad diversity of specialties that are encompassed by the Business Law Section umbrella.
I encourage each of you to join a standing committee, especially if you practice in an area specifically addressed by a standing committee. If you practice franchise law, or work with nonprofits, or specialize in the healthcare industry, or practice bankruptcy, or represent financial institutions, we have a committee that is just right for you. If you are interested in broader areas, such as corporations, partnerships and LLCs, or the UCC, or if you draft legal opinions, we have a committee of others who share that interest. And, if you always wanted to be an editor of a prestigious publication but never got the chance in law school, the Business Law News can always use a new, hardworking member of its editorial board.
