Federal Courts Update – November 2025

Central District of California
Limited Court Operations: Due to the government shutdown, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California has implemented limited operations, which began on October 20, 2025. The Court will continue to hear civil and criminal matters, while other forms of customer service will be diminished.
Changes to Local Rules: The Court has preliminarily approved changes to the following local rules, which will take effect on December 1, 2025:
Local Civil Rules:
- L.R. 7-1 (amendment): technical changes requiring signatures for each party on stipulations.
- L.R. 83-4.2, 83-4.5 (amendments); 83-4.6 (addition): amendments to rules on applications for law student practice.
Local Criminal Rules:
- L.Cr.R. 57-1.1 (addition): follows the civil amendments to rules on applications for law student practice.
