Message from the Chair – Christina Ro-Connolly

Christina Ro-Connolly

Dear Colleagues,

This is a difficult and painful moment for many in our communities. The recent ICE raids and the deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles by the federal government have left families fearful, neighborhoods destabilized, and many of us deeply troubled. The images and stories emerging from our streets of innocent people detained and of lawful protests met with force remind us how fragile justice can feel when institutions are tested.

As attorneys, we are called to more than legal analysis or courtroom advocacy. We are stewards of the rule of law. In moments like this, that role becomes urgent. We are uniquely positioned to protect rights, amplify truth, and offer hope through action. Our work matters, perhaps now more than ever.

To our colleagues who are representing immigrants, supporting protesters, filing habeas petitions, or simply standing in solidarity, we thank you. Your hard work reminds us all of why we chose this profession. Our Section remains committed to supporting legal responses that are principled, constitutional, and humane.

Let us remember that even when our systems are under strain, the law, at its best, serves as a safeguard for dignity, equality, and justice. Together, we can continue to be a force for those ideals.

In solidarity,
Christina Ro-Connolly
