Letter From the Chair

Happy New Year! Bonne Annee!  Feliz Ano Nuevo!

I hope that you are settling nicely into the new year.

It was good to see a number of you during our December (San Francisco) and January (Mission Peak) hikes.  I will post the next (February) one on LinkedIn.  If we are not connected yet, feel free to send me an invitation.

We have a number of webinars in January and February, as well as full day programs in March, May, and June.

If you know someone who might be interested in joining the IP Section, please encourage them to sign up.  Also, please be sure to check and confirm that you have paid the membership fee for 2024. You can do this via your bar dues statement.

Lastly, but not least, I had a good conversation recently with a business/IP attorney regarding the power of experience.  For newer attorneys, no need to fret; you will get there.  For more experienced attorneys, learning is, of course, continuous. I recalled to myself, during our conversation, an appointment that I had had with an amazing physician about 20 years ago.  I had first met him about 15 years before that, when he would have been in his late forties. He had noted how in the intervening 15 years, his practice had further developed and evolved, and how, in his early sixties, he was seeing and understanding things clinically that he was not seeing or comprehending in his late forties.  As we were having this conversation, and as a newer attorney, this was not making complete sense.  I assumed that any gains after practicing for quite some time would be incremental.  Not so.  So, with that, as we dive further into 2024, I encourage you to take full advantage of your IP Section membership and to continue learning.
