Intellectual Property Law
Letter from the Chair
Dear IP Section Members,
The time for the Institute is finally upon us! I look forward to seeing many of you in Long Beach! For those of you who may be missing out, there’s still time to sign up and join us. If you’re interested in meeting with California IP attorneys and staying on top of the most recent developments in intellectual property then the 48th Annual IP Institute is the place for you. The Institute will be held on March 6-8th, 2025. We have an all-star set of speakers, including Professor David Nimmer and former GC to the U.S Copyright Office and current partner at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein + Selz, Jacqueline Charlesworth. We are also fortunate enough to have as our keynote speaker immediate past Director of the USPTO and current partner at Winston & Strawn, Kathi Vidal. Registration is open and can be found on the IP Section’s website, along with sponsorship opportunities for those interested.
I also want to take this opportunity to encourage you to join some of our incredible Interest Groups in their monthly calls. For the latest in what is going on in copyright, licensing, patent, or artificial intelligence, as well as lively discussion with California IP attorneys, you can join our Patent IG at noon on the first Tuesday of every month, our Copyright IG at noon on the first Wednesday of every month, our aritificial intelligence IG at noon on the second Tuesday of each month, or our Licensing IG on the second Friday. For the zoom audio-video link, please refer to the most recent issue of Inevitable Disclosures emailed to members of the IP Section. These calls are a ton of fun and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
As always, I want to invite all of you to reach out to me about getting involved with the Section. If you’re interested in joining our Executive Committee, the deadline is tomorrow (March 1st). If you’re interested you can find the application here.
If you are interested in working more hands on with IP-related programming, the simplest way is to join or volunteer with one of our many Interest Groups. We have interest groups ranging from Copyright, Patent, and Trademark to more practice-focused groups such as Entertainment and Sports Law, Licensing. Artificial Intelligence, Litigation, and Technology, Internet, and Privacy. There’s sure to be something to suit your particular practice.
Finally, if you have a specific topic you would be interested in seeing turned into a webinar or other programming, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I am always only an email away and I love hearing from our members!
All the best,
Jon Lurie
