Intellectual Property Law

Letter from the Chair

Dear IP Section Members,

The holidays are almost upon us and, at least for me, it is hard to believe how fast this year has gone by. It is also incredible to think that, as those days pass, we are only two short years from the 50th anniversary of the IP Section itself. Founded in 1976, an auspicious year for copyright law, the IP Section has existed through enormous shifts in technology and legal precedent that have shaped the contours of the practice that we, and our many members, are so passionate about.

Thinking back on this history is a humbling experience. First and foremost, it is incredible to think of the decades of work of dedicated individuals and members to ensure that the Section provides the most cutting-edge information on IP law andpractice. Second, thinking on the sheer scope of change even in the past few years—from AI to Warhol—it is impossible to not be excited by how dynamic the world of intellectual property is and will continue to be.

We are lucky to have such a fantastic community of curious-minded lawyers as our members and now is the time to go meet up with your fellow IP attorneys! We will be having four networking mixers—in San Mateo, San Francisco, Los Angeles, andSan Diego—on November 21st. Mark your calendars and we hope to see you there! Please feel free to bring a friend, members and non-members are all welcome. Have a drink and a bite to eat on the IP Section.

Our IP Institute is also coming up March 6-8, 2025, in beautiful Long Beach. I hope to see you there!

All the best,

Jon Lurie

IP Section Chair
