California’s privacy landscape changed dramatically in 2020. CCPA went into effect, final CCPA regulations were issued after several rounds of changes, voters approved Proposition 24 (the California Privacy Rights Act) which overhauled the CCPA, and the Legislature passed meaningful amendments to the CCPA particularly in the area of health law.
Prospects for US Federal Privacy Legislation in 2021
The 116th Congress of the United States witnessed sustained interest from policymakers and stakeholders to enact a comprehensive federal privacy law. However, despite considerable bipartisan efforts and the introduction of over a dozen bills, no federal privacy legislation reached the finish line. This panel will explore opportunities and challenges facing the new administration and the 117th Congress for progress in the federal protection of consumer data privacy.
