CLA Names Sen. Susan Rubio as Legislator of the Year
California Lawyers Association (CLA) is pleased to honor California Senator Susan Rubio as Legislator of the Year and acknowledge her extraordinary service since being elected to the California Senate in 2018. Join us when we present the award to her on Legislative Day, April 3 in Sacramento. Luis Céspedes Confirmed as Keynote Speaker
Luis Céspedes was appointed by Governor Newsom in December 2020 to serve as the Judicial Appointments Secretary in the Office of the Governor. Secretary Céspedes has spent his personal and professional life championing the causes of civil rights, diversity, equity, and inclusion, dating back to his support of the United Farm Workers, alongside César Chávez, as a 15-year-old in Santa Maria.
He was a Law Clerk and Case Analyst at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from 1971 to 1974, Senior Consultant for the California State Assembly Office of Majority Consultants in 1975, Administrative Assistant to a California Assemblymember from 1975 to 1977, Principal Consultant for the California State Assembly Committee on Health from 1980 to 1982, and a practicing attorney, starting in 1982.
