What’s on CLA’s Docket? News, Connections, and You!

June 2025

The Docket

California Lawyers Association (CLA) has a new and engaging space for its members to connect. The Docket is a powerful online community software platform which brings together the organization and its people, making real conversations happen.

Available now through CLA’s website, the project was announced in early 2025 after more than a year of development and testing. Today, CLA members are leveraging the state of the art technology to collaborate. In fact, nearly 1,800 attorneys have already started utilizing the system.

A key component of The Docket is the ability for each of CLA’s 18 sections to have their own space inside the platform, allowing section members to engage with each other. What makes the system even more special is the additional capacity for all CLA members to reach out to any of the sections in one place.

“I am thrilled with The Docket and its easy access to our membership, by practice area,” says CLA President Betty Williams, who was part of the original beta testing program, and shares a recent experience. “Last month I had a client who needed an employment law litigator. I posted an inquiry to the Employment Law section, noting the area in California where my client lives. Within hours, I had six qualified replies to share with my client. For me, there is a level of trust in a practitioner that is a member of CLA..”

Higher Logic is the tool’s developer, offering a secure, dedicated space where members can ask questions, share resources, and learn from each other. The application is highly user-friendly and can be accessed by desktop or using an online app.

“The accessibility takes CLA benefits to a new level,” says Williams who visits The Docket regularly for news and information. Each section, or “community,” features a place for online discussions. Libraries allow members to post legal documents, articles, and other professional information of interest.

Attorneys Tiffany Morgan and Bonnia Landles-Dowling connected regarding client resources for estate planning. CLA member Alice Marshall reached out to find Spanish speaking legal resource, and Gary Winter, attorney and CEO at Lawvex, was able to help.

A community events list announces dozens of CLA events ranging from webinars to in-person conferences to social activities. It’s all posted in one place, encouraging members to engage across legal specialty.

“CLA members are joining The Docket every single day,” says Julia Byrd, CLA Interim Chief Member Experience Officer. “It’s terrific to watch participation grow.”

The Docket is absolutely free. To sign in, click here. Additionally, The Docket may be accessed through CLA’s website main menu. Over the next few months, the software will be expanded to meet growing needs, and an online app will be made available for cell phone use.
