The Nonprofit Organizations Committee is pleased to announce the following presentation:
Can charities accept cash or in-kind donations from cannabis-related businesses?
by
Andrew Atkin, Of Counsel

July 16, 2020 10:00 a.m.
With the growth of the cannabis industry, many charities are being approached to accept cash and in-kind donations from cannabis businesses. This one-hour zoom presentation will discuss whether charities risk their tax exemption if they accept such gifts. Topics to be discussed include whether charities can accept CBD-oil based products, whether charities can offer sponsorships to cannabis-related businesses, and other risks charities should consider before accepting cannabis-related contributions.
Our speaker is Andrew Atkin of Rodriguez Horii, Choi & Cafferata LLP. Andrew’s practice concentrates on income and estate tax planning, including charitable giving. He advises exempt organizations on UBIT, self-dealing, and other issues, and represents organizations in IRS controversies.
Following Andrew’s presentation, the Nonprofit Organizations Committee will continue our regular meeting with announcements, updates, and discussion topics of interest to nonprofit organization attorneys. The Committee meeting will adjourn by noon.
