California Sales and Use Tax Issues
For Nonprofit Organizations

June 20, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Please join the Nonprofit Organizations Committee for a program on the topic of “California Sales and Use Tax Issues for Nonprofit Organizations.” Our presenter is William H. Gorrod, Of Counsel at Morrison & Foerster LLP. The meeting will be held jointly with the Tax Exempt Organizations Committee of the Taxation Section. This presentation will address California sales and use tax issues impacting nonprofit organizations, including 1) nexus requirements; 2) sales by nonprofit organizations; and 3) purchases by nonprofit organizations.

William Gorrod is Of Counsel in the state and local tax practice at Morrison & Foerster LLP. He focuses his practice on state and local tax planning, compliance, and corporate transactions on a multistate basis, and also represents clients in state and local tax controversies throughout the United States. William regularly advises clients on matters pertaining to state and local income and franchise taxes, gross receipt taxes, sales and use taxes, payroll taxes, and real estate transfer taxes and represents clients in audits, administrative appeals, voluntary disclosure agreements, penalty abatements, and amnesties. William’s clients include large corporations and flow-through entities across a wide range of industries, including technology, financial services, retail, media, and nonprofit organizations. In addition to his practice, William frequently presents on state and local tax topics and is the chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Taxation Section. He is a member of the San Francisco Tax Club and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and previously served as an adjunct professor at Santa Clara University School of Law where he taught a course on state and local taxation.
