Prescribed Burn Coverage

Commissioner Lara continues to focus on wildfire mitigation as a key area of importance.  On April 21, 2022, the California Department of Insurance issued a bulletin asking insurers to increase coverage for prescribed burn activities in California.  This request, which does not have the force of law, is part of the state’s coordinated efforts to reduce wildfire risk, as prescribed burn activity is an important risk mitigation tool.  The bulletin may be viewed here.

This e-Bulletin was prepared by Nicole Zayac, Counsel in the San Francisco office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. Ms. Zayac is the Chair of the Insurance Law Standing Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association.
