The V. Judson Klein Award is presented on an annual basis by the Taxation Section to a recipient in mid-career who is selected by the Executive Committee. With respect to this award, the official statement of the Taxation Section reads:
V. Judson Klein was an exceptional California attorney who died at the age of 42 on September 20, 1976, as a result of a tragic accident. He possessed a keen and imaginative intellect, a true passion for the law, and great personal integrity. He lived his life and practiced his profession with an intensity and enthusiasm equalled by few, and his memory will long be a source of inspiration to those who knew him.
Jud Klein was the first Chair of the Taxation Section. In his memory, the Taxation Section established the V. Judson Klein Award. This is a nonmonetary award given annually to a California attorney who exemplifies the qualities that caused Jud to be loved and respected by colleagues and clients alike. The recipient, who is selected by the Executive Committee of the Taxation Section, may be engaged in either private practice or government service in California.
