Strengthening the Legal Profession Through Collaboration and Shared Stories
Dedication and commitment are often inspired when we connect with others and listen intently to learn about their backgrounds and the work of their bar organizations. When we share our time and resources, we get closer to reaching our goals.
Last week, I met with leaders from the Cruz Reynoso Bar Association of Sacramento (CRBA), and the Sacramento Filipino American Lawyers Association (SacFALA), to network and consider effective ways to continue to increase the diversity of the legal profession in our state, and to increase the visibility of our collective lawyer-leaders.
It is through these meetings in small groups that many of us find inspiration and the drive to continue this meaningful work. Change and growth wouldn’t be possible without leaders and volunteers like Victoria Fernandez, CRBA President, Judge Patricia De Guzman Huber, SacFALA President, and Chris Nguyen, CLA’s CEO, for their willingness to say “yes!” and be part of leading these events.
The narratives from adversity to achievement from lawyers, judges, and law students are incredible as individuals share their stories, creating new and exciting relationships to understand the statistics, challenges, and possibilities to engage. Many people have stepped up in 2025 to join one other’s bar associations, take on new roles, attend events, and make introductions to people who want to make a difference. I encourage you to do the same.
It takes all of us as legal colleagues to give our attention to the future of our profession and access to justice in its many forms. No matter what inspires you, and whether you have only a few hours to give, or if you can be a fully active supporter, you can make a unique and lasting difference by connecting with colleagues and providing your own unique approach.
