The Section’s March 2019 biennial Energy Conference, “SB 100 and the Race to a Carbon Free Grid in California,” was a tremendous success, focusing on California’s aggressive plans to de-carbonize its electricity sector. If you missed the conference, the individual presentations are now available, with MCLE credit, on the CLA catalog. The California Lawyers Association is offering a complimentary on-demand CLE program for the month of June. It is an October 2018 program entitled “Employee Handbook Basics.” The program, designed for California employers and their employment law counsel, covers recent handbook updates, essential and required policies, and top ten frequent revisions made in reviewing handbooks. The program, which offers one hour of participatory MCLE credit, is available on the CLA website. Read more

The Environmental Law Section is pleased to offer at least 25 tuition scholarships, in addition to five (5) Michael H. Remy Scholarships, which include tuition, transportation, and hotel accommodations, courtesy of Remy Moose Manley LLP. Students, practitioners and other environmental professionals are invited to apply. Scholarships will be awarded based on: (a) financial need; (b) interest in environmental law (for students); (c) environmental law practice (for practitioners and other environmental law professionals); and (d) Environmental Law Section membership and support (for practitioners and other environmental law professionals). The 28th Annual Environmental Law Conference at Yosemite ® will take place October 17-20, 2019 at the Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp, California, minutes from Yosemite National Park. Our program this year will feature hot topics in environmental law, from the findings of the Commission on Catastrophic Wildfire Cost and Recovery to new regulations on PFAS, the 50th anniversary of NEPA, and land use regulation and the housing crisis, including a presentation by Senator Scott Wiener. On March 8, 2019, the Environmental Law Section conducted the 20th Annual Student Environmental Negotiations Competition at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. Two-student teams from law schools around the state competed in mock negotiations involving complex environmental issues and were judged by sitting judges and attorneys. Read more
